The Connected Learning Initiative (CLIx) was a bold and innovative effort to improve the professional and academic prospects of high schools students from underserved communities in India. CLIx was an initiative of MIT, the Tata Institute for Social Science and the Tata Trusts in India. CLIx incorporated thoughtful pedagogical design and leverages contemporary technology, including online capabilities, to provide quality educational content and experiences at scale. The initiative reached a 478 schools and 33,000 students in 4 states in India from 2015 to 2019 and conducted professional development for approximately 2,400 teachers.
CLIx catalyzed access to quality learning opportunities at scale that are capable of changing what Indian students and teachers know and can do. A massive quality intervention, providing curricular alternatives to students and teachers, can irreversibly ‘change the game’, improving the Indian education system and what Indian youth learn.
The Connected Learning Initiative at MIT was led by Vijay Kumar and Eric Klopfer with Brandon Muramatsu as project director. CLIx was active 2015-2019.
